Víctor Álvarez Alegría was born in the picturesque city of Santander in northern Spain.
At the age of 9, he discovered his passion for music and began his studies at the renowned Jesús de Monasterio Conservatory in his hometown, where he was trained under the experienced guidance of Professor Francisco Nájera.
At 18, his journey took him to Amsterdam, where he was admitted to the prestigious Conservatorium van Amsterdam. There, he perfected his skills under the tutelage of renowned professors Jörgen Van Rijen, Pierre Volders, and Remko de Jager. During his five years in Amsterdam, Víctor gained valuable experience: he played with the NJO (Netherlands Youth Orchestra), performed solo concerts, and successfully participated in various competitions.
His outstanding talent eventually paved the way for him to join the Berlin Philharmonic Academy, where he was selected for the 2023–2025 season. He was later admitted to the Universität der Künste (UDK) Berlin under the guidance of Stefan Schulz, where he continued to refine his musical education. Today, Víctor Álvarez Alegría captivates audiences as a soloist on concert tours throughout Spain and worldwide with leading orchestras. As the principal trombonist of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland, he has established himself as a prominent figure in the international music scene. Additionally, he has been selected as an artist for the prestigious brand Kühnl & Hoyer—a brand known for high-quality brass instruments that have accompanied and inspired Víctor since his early childhood.
“The reason I play Kühnl & Hoyer is because at the age of 10, when I was just starting to play the trombone, my teacher at the time entrusted me with this “Slokar Model” by Kühnl & Hoyer. After more than 15 years of playing this instrument, I have not found greater lightness, better sound or more pleasant playing feel than with this model. The light slide is ideal for me to play fast and virtuoso passages, but also to create a powerful sound in the orchestra. The lightness and the sound quality in both the high and low registers never cease to amaze me. Since then, no other brand has met the standards that this trombone offers me.”
